After serious crashes! Talented skier ends his career

Downhill specialist Yannick Chabloz has ended his career as a professional racer. This was announced by the Swiss Ski Association in a press release. Shortly afterwards, the 25-year-old himself posted an emotional statement on Instagram. The Swiss skier's short career was characterized by crashes. 

"Exactly two years have now passed since my last crash in Bormio. After this long journey with many ups and downs, the time has come for me to retire from alpine ski racing," Chabloz announced on Instagram.

On December 26, 2022, the Swiss skier had a serious fall in Bormio. He suffered a fractured spinous process and a fracture in the upper thoracic spine. Since then, he has been working on a comeback, but realized that his head kept slowing him down.

"Listen to your feelings and body"
Chabloz had already been plagued by injuries before. Particularly serious in the combined downhill at the 2022 Olympic Games in China. There, the talented skier suffered several fractures, which he had to work on for a long time.

"It is and will probably remain the hardest decision of my life, but I have taken enough time to listen to my feelings and my body so that I can make this decision with a clear mind and a heart full of love for this sport," says Chabloz, explaining his decision.

He looks back on his career with pride, even if it was shorter than he had hoped, emphasizes the 25-year-old. "Above all, I was able to share all my successes with incredible people, starting with my family, my teammates, competitors and friends, my coaches and employees, my sponsors and supporters. So many wonderful encounters that have supported me and helped me move forward," concludes Chabloz.
