Swan had to be rescued from the highway

The Villach main fire station (Carinthia) was called out to an animal rescue operation on Thursday morning - a winged patient was in distress!

Shortly before 10 a.m., the Villach main fire station was requested by the highway police to assist with an animal rescue on the A2 Südautobahn near the Faaker See exit.

"When we arrived on site, the swan had already been lifted over the wildlife fence on the highway by the officers. The visibly injured animal was crouching there," says incident commander Alexander Scharf.

Fortunately, there was an agricultural garage and storage area next to the highway, from where the fire department was able to get directly to the animal: "The injured swan was quickly caught using an animal net and taken to the Villach animal shelter for further care by a team from our station," said the Florianis, who were deployed with nine men.
