Hotel in Salzburg’s Pinzgau region evacuated after fire

An Advent wreath caught fire in Piesendorf (Pinzgau) at around 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The fire caused smoke to fill parts of the stairwell and 43 hotel guests had to be evacuated from their rooms via terraces and balconies. 

One member of staff tried to fight the flames with a fire extinguisher and suffered minor injuries. The fire department was eventually able to extinguish the fire quickly.

As the Piesendorf volunteer fire department writes in its incident report, all evacuated guests were registered by name and compared with the occupancy list.

Holidaymakers accommodated in fire station
While the fire department ventilated the stairwell, the holidaymakers were accommodated in a neighboring building and in the local fire station. However, they were able to return to their accommodation shortly afterwards.
