The Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi, who was arrested for not wearing a headscarf, has been released on bail. According to media reports, the equivalent of around 37,000 euros had to be paid.

The four members of her band were also released on bail, it was also reported. The group had broadcast the concert, which was held without an audience, live on Ahmadi's YouTube channel on December 11. Ahmadi was not wearing a hijab, as is the Iranian dress code for women.

As a result, the judiciary declared that it had initiated proceedings against the singer and her employees for violating "legal and religious standards". The dress code, which was introduced with the Islamic Revolution in 1979, obliges women to cover their hair in public, among other things. They are also not allowed to sing solo in public.

However, more and more women are defying these rules, especially since the mass protests. In September 2022, 22-year-old Masha Amini died in police custody after being arrested for allegedly violating the dress code.

Ahmadi also supports this protest movement with her music. Her videos show her singing without a headscarf in closed rooms. The video, which was published on YouTube, is the first to show her singing in public.
