Some love it, others don't like it at all: the Linzer Torte! The sweet landmark of the Upper Austrian capital divides connoisseurs. The pastry is now a new addition to the restaurant and snack menu on ÖBB trains. Caterer DoN has the ovens glowing in the bakery at Hörsching Airport.

In the sweet & savory category, the new addition to the menu is described in five languages: The Linzer Torte is advertised in English, Italian, Hungarian, Czech and German and has been available to buy on ÖBB trains since Thursday, December 19.

With a diameter of eight centimetres, it weighs just under 90 grams - and there is a lot of manual work behind it, as the "Krone" discovered during a visit to the DoN bakery at the airport in Hörsching.

The production area in the basement of Linz Airport, where desserts are produced for various DoN businesses and also for the Vapiano restaurants belonging to the group, is now also the home of the Linzer Torte, which travelers can enjoy on ÖBB trains.

First production on December 4
The premiere order came on track with little lead time: the first batch was produced on December 4 - a total of 1440 pieces in one day. The first Linzer Torten were then delivered on December 13. 

"The cakes are delivered centrally to our logistics department in Vienna and we distribute them to the trains," reveals Managing Director Christian Hölbl, who is proud of the team led by Georg Reichenvater and Reinhard Reichl: "This is a new product for us that we haven't had in this form before. We designed it especially for the train."
