Police evacuate two elementary school in Wels

It's happened again! Two elementary school in Wels had to be evacuated after a bomb threat. One of the principals had received a threatening email during the night and reacted. However, school started normally in the morning before the police arrived.

Bomb threats were again received at schools throughout Austria during the night. In Upper Austria, elementary school 10 and 11 in Wels-Lichtenegg were affected. The schools are right next to each other and the mail reached one of the two principals during the night. 

Situation reassessed
"He immediately informed the police and after consultation with the executive, the school day started normally in the morning," confirmed the Upper Austrian Education Directorate. However, the situation was then re-evaluated and the police decided to carry out an evacuation after all.

Children are being looked after
"Everything is running smoothly. Parents have been informed and can pick up their children. Children who cannot be picked up are being accommodated and looked after in neighboring schools," according to the Education Directorate.

Threats are connected
It is obvious that the nationwide threats are connected. It remains to be seen whether they originate from the threatener from Switzerland, who has been a nuisance for months.
