The car skidded: Car crashes into tunnel wall

A serious accident on the B179 Fernpass road in Tyrol on Monday: a German woman (26) skidded in her car in the Lermoos tunnel, causing it to crash into the tunnel wall. The driver and her passenger had to be taken to hospital with injuries.

The accident happened at around 1.30 pm. The 26-year-old German woman was driving her car on the B179 from Nassereith in the direction of Reutte when she veered too far to the right in the Lermoos tunnel and consequently hit the boundary stones.

Both occupants suffered injuries in the accident.

Rescue to hospital
"The car skidded and finally crashed into the tunnel wall," reported the police. The driver and her co-driver (22) suffered serious injuries due to the force of the impact.

After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, the two were taken to Reutte District Hospital by ambulance.

Tunnel closed for 45 minutes
The vehicle sustained massive material damage. During the operation, the Lermoos tunnel had to be closed to all traffic for around 45 minutes. A detour was set up via Ehrwald/Lermoos.
