Bus left the road: Passengers rescued with a ladder

Shock for the passengers of an Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB) bus early Tuesday evening! When the driver (34) tried to avoid a vehicle, the bus left the road. It smashed through a fence, protruded over a wall and ended up virtually stuck in a garden shed. The occupants had to be rescued using a ladder.

The spectacular accident happened shortly before 5.30 pm. The W bus was traveling on Weiherburggasse in the direction of the Alpenzoo. "In order to avoid an oncoming road sweeper, the 34-year-old bus driver drove onto the sidewalk there," said the police.

The 16 occupants of the bus were uninjured, but had to be rescued by the Innsbruck fire department.

And then it happened: for unknown reasons, the bus crashed through the adjacent fence and got stuck in a clubhouse or garden shed behind it, according to the investigators. The bus protruded over the wall at a lofty height.

Road closed for three hours
According to the police, there were 16 passengers on the bus. "All of them were uninjured, but had to be rescued by the Innsbruck professional fire department."

The bus, the fence and the garden shed were severely damaged. Weiherburggasse had to be closed for around three hours during the operation and the recovery of the bus.
