Deadly drama in St. Leonhard in the Tyrolean Pitztal on Saturday! A mountaineering duo from Germany - two men aged 40 and 66 - wanted to climb the Verpeilspitz summit. During the early descent, the 40-year-old slipped on a snowfield and fell into the depths.

The drama unfolded at around 2.30 pm. The German duo were on a mountain tour to the Verpeilspitz summit on the Kaunergrat in St. Leonhard in Pitztal. "They started in the morning hours in Plangeross and followed the signposted route," said the police.

The 66-year-old was walking behind the 40-year-old and saw him suddenly lose his footing on a snow field.
