Accident: Polish man wanted to drive home in someone else’s car

On Monday, a 23-year-old wanted to drive to his family's home in Poland in someone else's car. The reason: a death. However, the man was drunk and caused an accident with the stolen car in the city of Salzburg.

A police patrol was called to a property damage accident involving a car in the city of Salzburg on Monday. The driver, a 23-year-old Pole, did not have a valid driver's license - but had a blood alcohol level of 1.22 per mille. As he was unable to prove that he was in legal possession of the car and was suspected of theft, he was temporarily detained. The owners of the company car were later traced.

The Pole, who was currently working in Pinzgau and staying overnight in Zell am See, wanted to drive to Poland as quickly as possible due to a death in the family. He therefore wanted to take possession of the vehicle illegally. He was delayed by the accident.

The Salzburg public prosecutor's office ordered charges to be brought at large. The man will be charged with unauthorized use and several administrative offences.
