Priest (57) stabbed during children’s mass

A Catholic priest in Singapore has been the victim of a knife attack. As the Archdiocese of Singapore announced on Saturday, the priest was attacked during a children's service by a man with a folding knife who wounded him several times.

Christopher Lee (57) is now in hospital and his condition is stable, Kathpress reported.

Singapore's Archbishop William Goh shared a video on Facebook on Sunday showing the wounded priest in a wheelchair but fully conscious in hospital.

'Parishioners disarmed the 37-year-old suspect in the incident, who was subsequently arrested, the police said on Facebook. The officers went on to explain: "Based on preliminary investigations, it is believed that the man acted alone."

The man is Sinhalese, the largest ethnic group in Sri Lanka, and declared his religious affiliation to the immigration authorities as Christianity. According to the police, he had previously been conspicuous for assault and drug offenses. The authorities are currently ruling out a terrorist background.
