Five-year-old hit by gunfire in car

A five-year-old has been shot and critically injured in France. 

The child was hit in the head by two bullets in his father's car, according to the Rennes public prosecutor's office.

The man had wanted to take his child to his mother on Saturday evening from a district of the Breton city where shots had already been fired in the morning and masked people had roamed the streets.

The father claimed to have been followed by a car on the way. The exact circumstances of the crime and its background were initially unclear. The public prosecutor's office is investigating attempted murder.
