Lane divider blocked highway after accident

A protruding concrete lane divider caused obstructions and traffic jams on the A12 Inntal highway in the Tyrolean lowlands on Tuesday. Two trucks had previously crashed into the barrier.

The incident occurred at around 5.30 am. An Italian man (55) was driving his truck and trailer on the A12 near Wörgl coming from Kufstein in the direction of Innsbruck. "According to him, a truck driver in front of him touched the lane divider there. This had been damaged. The driver did not stop," said the police.

Could no longer take evasive action
The Italian driver was no longer able to react or swerve in time, whereupon he also touched the displaced barrier. "As a result, the Wörgl-West exit was completely blocked by the transverse lane divider," the investigators continued.

The 55-year-old's truck had been severely damaged and was no longer roadworthy. The Wörgl-West exit was completely closed for around one and a half hours. Traffic jams were the result.

Memories of an accident in the summer
There had already been a truck accident in the roadworks area near Wörgl on the A12 in the summer. Presumably due to carelessness, a Bulgarian crashed into the concrete crash barrier with an articulated lorry.

The truck's tank was damaged and hundreds of liters of fuel spilled onto the road.
