ChatGPT maker OpenAI is worth 157 billion US dollars

According to insiders, the AI company OpenAI has raised 6.6 billion dollars from investors. This values the Microsoft partner at 157 billion dollars, people familiar with the matter told the news agency Reuters on Wednesday. This makes the software company known for its generative artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT one of the most valuable private companies in the world.

OpenAI is on track to achieve a turnover of 3.6 billion dollars this year with rising losses of more than five billion dollars, according to sources. A leap in turnover to 11.6 billion dollars is forecast for 2025.

Fresh money from Microsoft and Nvidia
In addition to venture capitalists such as Thrive Capital and Khosla Ventures, OpenAI's largest financial backer Microsoft also reportedly participated in the financing. AI chip manufacturer Nvidia is a new addition.

Other names mentioned were Altimeter Capital, Fidelity, SoftBank and the state-backed investment company MGX from Abu Dhabi. Apple, however, did not participate in the financing after negotiations. A statement from the iPhone manufacturer was not initially available.
