A terrible accident early on Thursday morning in the Tyrolean Ötztal: two company vans collided violently in Sölden. A local man (36) was trapped in the wreck - he had to be rescued by the fire department and then flown to hospital by emergency helicopter. The occupants of the other small truck escaped more lightly.

The fatal accident happened at around 7.30 a.m. on the B186 Ötztalstraße near Sölden. "According to witnesses, the 36-year-old Austrian drove his vehicle into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the oncoming small truck, in which two Hungarians were sitting," said the police.

Rescued with rescue shears
The local man suffered serious injuries as a result of the violent collision. He had to be freed from the wreckage by the fire department using rescue shears. After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, he was taken by helicopter to Innsbruck Hospital.

According to the investigators, the two Hungarians were able to free themselves from their small truck. They got off lightly. They were taken to Zams Hospital with minor injuries.

Accident caused total closure
Both vehicles were totaled. The B186 Ötztalstraße was closed to all traffic in the area of the accident for one hour.
