Jürgen Klopp: “I asked myself: ‘Why me?”

A great honor for Jürgen Klopp: the currently club-less coaching icon was one of 28 people to be honored in Berlin by Germany's Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier!

According to the citation for the award, Klopp's "success and fame have never deterred him from turning his attention to each individual athlete and seeing the person in them".

Klopp was visibly delighted to receive the Federal Cross of Merit. "It's really very, very special. There are so many people here with incredibly great life achievements. That's why I feel very humble and very small in a group of such extraordinary people with such extraordinary stories," he said.

The 57-year-old Klopp stepped down as coach of Liverpool FC in England last summer after just under nine years in charge.

Whether the Champions League winner, Club World Cup triumphant and UEFA Super Cup winner from 2019 (with the Reds) and multiple champion and cup winner (with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund) will work as a coach again in the future is still completely open ...
