Man (41) with a hammer caused a stir in Vienna

Cars damaged, fire extinguishers sprayed out and shop windows smashed: a 41-year-old man in Vienna-Floridsdorf is accused of all this. He is said to have roamed the streets armed with a hammer on Monday and caused several serious acts of damage to property. The police were alerted! 

The police were alerted because a man found several damaged cars and sprayed-out fire extinguishers in a public garage - where his vehicle was also parked. But it didn't stop there. While the facts of the case were being investigated, the next emergency call came in to the Floridsdorf municipal police department: a man was reportedly smashing shop windows with a hammer nearby.

It quickly became clear that this was probably the same vandal as the one who had broken into the cars. The man, who matched the description, was quickly stopped in the vicinity in Schloßhofer Straße.

The suspect was a 41-year-old Austrian who was carrying a hammer. The weapon was seized and the man was provisionally arrested on suspicion of serious damage to property.
