Tyrolean woman paid tens of thousands to Bitcoin scammers

A 40-year-old woman in the Tyrolean Oberland region fell victim to online fraudsters. Over a period of 1.5 years, she transferred a five-figure sum in the belief that she was investing in Bitcoin.

Initially via Facebook and later via WhatsApp, the unknown fraudsters promised the Austrian woman high profits if she invested in Bitcoin. The woman then transferred a total of several tens of thousands of euros to various accounts in Europe between January 2023 and August 2024. 

However, the promised profit did not materialize and the fraud victim suffered losses in the mid five-digit euro range.
