Companies damaged by the flood disaster now have easier access to short-time working.

In the event of natural disasters such as flooding, the need for a social partner agreement no longer applies, explained Economics Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) on Wednesday afternoon. A company agreement is sufficient to make use of short-time working. According to the ministry, it is not yet possible to estimate how many companies will be able to take advantage of the aid.

The application can be submitted to the Public Employment Service up to three weeks retroactively to the start of short-time working. However, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, affected companies should contact one of the regional AMS offices soon. "With short-time work, we are enabling companies that are affected by a prolonged plant closure to temporarily register their employees for short-time work," said Kocher.

According to the Chamber of Labor, the calculation of short-time work support for employees is based on an 88 percent gross replacement rate, which on average leads to a 90 percent net replacement rate. Working hours must be reduced by at least ten percent to a maximum of 90 percent.
