Berlin: Roof of party boat collapses on the Spree

In Berlin, the emergency services had to be called out to an accident on the River Spree. The roof of a party boat on which a concert had just taken place had collapsed. According to the Berlin fire department, four people suffered serious injuries and five others sustained minor injuries.

The injured were taken to several hospitals in Berlin. However, no one's life is in danger.

Metal roof collapsed
The police are investigating on suspicion of negligent bodily harm. Police and the fire department were reportedly called to a ship in Berlin-Mitte on Tuesday evening, where the metal roof of the event boat, which was moored on the Spree in the area of Fischerinsel, had collapsed.

A total of nine women, aged between 22 and 30, and three men aged 24, 26 and 31 were injured. According to the police, two of the women were taken to hospital for inpatient treatment. Several injured people were treated on site or as outpatients in hospital

Doubts about the stability of the roof construction
The cause of the accident is still unclear. However, according to the "Berliner Morgenpost", there were already doubts about the stability of the roof construction among the visitors before the collapse.

120 guests were celebrating
On Tuesday evening, the fire department initially said that almost 30 people were injured, and later nine. A total of around 120 people are said to have been on the boat. This was the event ship "MS Heimatland", as the operator confirmed on request.
