Fire at Tiwag power plant due to technical defect

Fire alarm early Tuesday morning in Silz in Tyrol! A fire broke out at the Tiwag power plant there due to a defect. Fortunately, the fire ended without serious consequences. Six people had to be given emergency medical treatment.

Shortly after 8 a.m., the Floriani firefighters' pagers sounded the alarm. "An electric heater in a ventilation and heating room had caught fire due to a defect, causing massive smoke to fill the entire windowless room," said the Silz fire department. Other parts of the building, especially the office wing, were also filled with smoke.

Ventilation room was cleared of smoke
Several breathing apparatus teams then fought the fire using several CO2 fire extinguishers. "After fighting the fire, smoke was extracted from the ventilation room using a ventilation unit. Additional pressure ventilators were used to clear the office wing of smoke," said the Florianis.

Nobody was injured
Six people from the company had to be monitored by the emergency services, but were able to remain at the scene. After around two hours, the operation was over for the fire department.
