Debris fell on worker (38) during tunnel work

Serious work accident in the Brenner base tunnel in Tyrol! Debris fell from a height of around nine meters from the tunnel ceiling onto a 38-year-old Slovakian early Tuesday morning. The man was seriously injured.

The worker was installing bolts for measuring sensors in the tunnel area in the south/west tunnel in the municipality of Steinach at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday. "When the 38-year-old climbed into the basket of a climber, rubble fell from the tunnel ceiling from a height of around nine meters and hit the man," said the police.

Taken to hospital in Innsbruck
Another worker was able to observe the incident, immediately provided first aid and set the rescue chain in motion. After initial treatment by the ambulance service, the injured man was taken to the hospital in Innsbruck with serious injuries.
