“Gentleman” borrowed a car – and disappeared!

The police are looking for a real "sir" in the district of Krems - and of course well beyond the borders of Lower Austria. The fraudster who scammed himself out of a 21,000 euro car in the Wachau region introduced himself as an Irish businessman at the car rental company. 

A stranger gave an extremely respectable impression when he wanted to borrow a car from a small car rental company in the Wachau region. But appearances were deceptive, as it later turned out. The man turned out to be a genuine fraudster.

"Gentleman" disappeared
But his scam was ingenious. He was able to identify himself at the appointment with an Irish document and appeared very trustworthy. He chose a car worth 21,000 euros and agreed a specific date for returning it. However, he never turned up again. The small businessman was only able to file a complaint, and so far there is no trace of the car.

The police are already investigating at full speed. From the current perspective, it is unlikely to be a serial offender, at least in the region, as no further cases have been reported so far.
