Fitter fell to his death in residential building with elevator

Horrible! A fitter from Styria fell to his death on an elevator in a multi-storey apartment building in Linz's Makartstraße on Wednesday morning. He was standing on the roof of the elevator when it plunged unchecked into the basement.

The fitter from Styria was working with two colleagues on Wednesday to dismantle a passenger lift in a multi-storey building in Linz.

The 30-year-old from Wies in the Deutschlandsberg district was on the roof of the elevator when it crashed into the basement shortly after 8.30 a.m. for unknown reasons and hit the ground without braking. The emergency doctor was only able to determine that the worker had died, and unfortunately all help came too late for him. The defective elevator is now being investigated by the police.
