New job! Mauricio Pochettino is now team manager

Mauricio Pochettino is back on the soccer stage - as team manager. As the US association announced on its social media channels, the Argentinian is taking over at the 2026 World Cup hosts.

"The energy, the passion and the hunger to achieve something truly historic here" encouraged Pochettino to take on the coaching job. The 52-year-old is following in the footsteps of Gregg Berhalter, who had to pack his bags after missing the first round of the Copa America in July.

Pochettino was most recently on the bench at Chelsea FC, having previously coached top clubs such as Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain, reaching the Champions League final with Spurs in 2019. He is the second non-American after the German Jürgen Klinsmann to lead the US team.
