Serious hiking accident on Friday in Tyrol! Because a bridge railing suddenly broke, a German woman (68) fell around five meters down an embankment. The woman had to be airlifted to hospital.

The 68-year-old woman from Munich went on a hike on Friday with a group from the German Alpine Club in the municipality of Thiersee (Kufstein district) and climbed up towards Veitsberg. On the way back along the marked hiking trail no. 10, the accident occurred at the bridge over the Karnertalbach stream.

Crossbar broke at a damaged spot
"When the 68-year-old leaned against the wooden, waist-high bridge railing, a crossbar probably broke at a damaged point, causing her to fall around five meters and hit the adjacent, steep embankment slope leading to the stream bed, where she remained," said the police.

Arm fracture suffered
The German woman's companions immediately set the rescue chain in motion. After first aid, the accident victim was rescued by the crew of the "Heli 3" emergency helicopter using a rope and flown to hospital in Kufstein. "She suffered a fractured arm and was admitted to hospital," said the executive.
