In Baku: Talented Bearman replaces “bully” Magnussen

Oliver Bearman is the replacement driver for the suspended Haas driver Kevin Magnussen at the race in Baku. The 19-year-old has already replaced Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz once this season and showed his talent in the process. Now comes his next chance to make a name for himself. 

Bearmann returns to Formula 1 at the Grand Prix in Baku on September 15. While he already made his debut in the premier class for Ferrari this season when Sainz was out due to his appendix operation, this time the 19-year-old will be driving for Haas.

Otherwise, Bearman was currently back in Formula 2. When Haas needed a replacement for Magnussen, he was immediately brought into play. The racing team has now confirmed the decision.

Can benefit from experience
"It is definitely a challenge to contest a race as a replacement driver with limited preparation," the Briton reflects. However, he will benefit from his experience from March. "I'm in the fortunate position of having already experienced this once this year. The aim is to have a solid weekend in Azerbaijan," explains Bearman. 

Magnussen got in the way of Alpine driver Pierre Gasly in Monza. For the race stewards, it was clear that Magnussen was at fault and caused the collision. As a result, he received the next two penalty points. And they have consequences: The Dane is not allowed to take part in the race in Baku. This is because any driver who collects twelve penalty points within twelve months is automatically banned from the next race.
