Activity Report Association “Friends of the Animal Corner”

The “Friends of Tierecke” Association operates independently, nonpartisan, and autonomously, with its headquarters in Vienna. The association is a nonprofit organization; its activities are exclusively for the public good and extend throughout Austria. 

Purpose: Protection of the environment, nature, and animal species. Above all, the association strives to ensure that animals in its care are raised, cared for, and kept in a manner appropriate to their needs, and is committed to ensuring that animals can live in a way that respects their dignity as living beings. A major priority of the association is to raise public awareness and the level of information among the population, as well as to motivate people to recognize the importance of environmental, nature, and species conservation, as well as animal welfare, in their daily lives and to act accordingly!

Through free listings in the “Kronen Zeitung” animal section, the association places pets with people who can guarantee optimal care and housing. The association provides general information and also addresses specific cases of abuse throughout Austria, which it resolves either through its own actions or by intervening with the relevant authorities. The association provides information via the print publication “Kronen Zeitung,” online media ( krone.at/tierecke ), and social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram on all matters related to the association’s purpose.

Use of Donations in 2025:

• “Krone” Cat Shelter : The cat shelter was closedin April/May. The 31 cats cared for there have been transferred to the care of Gut Aiderbichl. To ensure the well-being of our animals, a monthly financial contribution toward ongoing care and maintenance costs was agreed upon with Gut Aiderbichl.

•  Payment of boarding costs, including food, as well as medical treatment provided by Dr. Franz Pürrer at the Schandl Animal Boarding Facility in 7372 Draßmarkt for older, unadoptable dogs or for dogs rescued from poor living conditions —animal hoarding cases—and subsequently placed through the “Krone” Animal Corner. In 2025, Ms. Schandl housed three dogs from the Animal Corner.

• Support through food donations—animal shelters and organizations: Cathouse, Gnadenhof Hoffnung für Tiere, Pfötchenhilfe Fischamend, Pfötchenhilfe Frättingsdorf, Mödling Animal Welfare Association, Futterbox Association, Cats & Dogs Grenzenlos, Burgenland Animal Welfare Association, Animal Care International, Pfotenretter Association, Tiertafel Liezen, Fenjas Tierhilfe Association, TSV Mödling, Tierheim Linz, Lennymarkt Tiertafel, Weizer Streunerhilfe, Tierheim Winde in Not, Vorarlberger Tierschutzheim, Tierschutz aktiv, Tierheim Garten Eden, Tierhilfe Kos, Tierheim Mentlberg, Pfoten für Tirol, Animalfriends, Mobile Pet Market, Food Basket for Dogs and Cats, Humanitas Cat Rescue, Gänserndorf Animal Friends, Tullner Pfotenhilfe, Save Cats Haus Langenlois, Helping Hands Animal Aid Association, Liezen Cat Rescue, Tiertafel Styria, Purzel & Vicky Animal Shelter, Active Animal Protection, Pinzgau Animal Shelter, Mentelberg Animal Shelter, TSV Kitzbühel, Tierhilfe Dreiländereck, Streunertatzen Association, Vorarlberger Tierschutzheim GmbH

• Support through food donations – private animal welfare advocates: Georg Swoboda, Christa Jandl, Regina Balog, Anja Prikrznik, Peter Kleinszig, Karin Miedl

• Financial support for necessary treatments/surgeries for animals whose owners are in need (upon presentation of proof and verification of need) at various veterinarians/animal hospitals throughout Austria.

• Support for various animal welfare projects: Pfötchenhilfe Animal Welfare Association, Lichtblickhof, Neunerhaus, Katzenhilfe Liezen Animal Welfare Association
