This year's festival is drawing to a close. There was a royal visit for the grand Jedermann finale.

"I think I've held my own. It was a great summer. The hottest summer of my life," Philipp Hochmair summed up shortly before the last Jedermann performance on Wednesday evening. The last, completely sold-out performance at the Domplatz went off to thunderous applause. And with a truly crowning finale: the former Dutch Queen Beatrix mingled with the audience!

A royal visit to the Festival is not a rarity. Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands - her official title - has regularly traveled to Salzburg for the Salzburg Festival since 1994. Most recently last year in 2023, when she almost always watches Jedermann. This year, the former Queen's program also included a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on Thursday evening.

Between performances, the 86-year-old escapes the hustle and bustle of the city. During her stay in Salzburg, she likes to spend the night a little further over the border. Close to Lake Attersee, she finds Schloss Kogl an ideal retreat for herself.
