Baby carriage plunges into stream: boy and grandma injured!

A big shock for a family in Lower Austria: a baby carriage carrying a 13-month-old boy fell into the Pittenbach stream in Bad Erlach. The grandmother (70) jumped in after the offspring and the child had to be resuscitated ...

It was a terrible scene that took place on Tuesday afternoon in Bad Erlach. The 70-year-old woman immediately jumped into the stream to save her grandson.

Rescued by passers-by
But in the end, two attentive passers-by had to pull the lady and the baby carriage out of the water and resuscitate the 13-month-old child.

"Probably suffered no damage"
According to initial information, the toddler was flown to a hospital in Vienna. The grandmother was also taken to hospital with injuries, the police confirmed on Wednesday. The child is doing well again, "it should not have suffered any damage", said police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner.

The grandmother suffered a severe shock and abrasions.

Fainting spell led to accident
But how could such an accident happen in the first place? According to Schwaigerlehner, the woman probably suffered a fainting spell at around 5.15 p.m. while walking along the sidewalk next to the Pittenbach. As a result, the baby carriage rolled over an embankment into the water and drifted off.
