Fatal accident: 55-year-old crashes his e-bike

Even minor carelessness can have fatal consequences. When a 73-year-old man from Villach was riding his e-bike in Villach on Saturday evening, he left the road.

The man was riding his e-bike on Strimitzer Straße in Villach in the direction of Wernberger Straße at around 6.50 pm. "Shortly after the start of a steep section of road, he hit the embankment on the right and fell onto the road as a result," said the police.

Only a short time later, a 55-year-old cyclist came to the scene of the accident and saw the man. "He immediately set the rescue chain in motion and provided first aid," explained the police. However, resuscitation at the scene was unsuccessful. "The emergency doctor was only able to determine that the cyclist who had been involved in the accident had died due to his serious injuries," said the police.

The 73-year-old was not wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the accident. "He hit the back of his head on the asphalt, which led to the serious injuries", explained the police on request.
