Knife attack on girlfriend in Lower Austria: man in custody

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Traismauer (St. Pölten district) late on Tuesday evening on suspicion of having stabbed his 19-year-old girlfriend in the back.

The horrific act was committed at around 11 pm. Although seriously injured, the 19-year-old fled from the apartment and was cared for by neighbors. According to Schwaigerlehner, the accused from the district of St. Pölten called the emergency services himself and was subsequently arrested without resistance. The 29-year-old is said to have been heavily intoxicated at the time of the crime.

Young woman undergoes emergency surgery
The young woman was immediately operated on at St. Pölten University Hospital and is now in a stable condition, police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner announced on Wednesday morning. The investigation into the case is in full swing.
