After hut check-in: Alpinist disappeared without a trace

Fears for a mountaineer in the Tyrolean Zillertal: After the man had checked in at a mountain hut on Thursday, he set off on a summit tour. The mountaineer never returned. A search operation has so far been unsuccessful.

On the public holiday, shortly before 10 p.m., the landlord of the Friesenberghaus in Finkenberg reported the hiker missing, the police said. The alpinist had checked in at the hut at around 2 pm and then set off on a tour to a summit.

When the hiker had still not returned to spend the night at around 10 p.m., the hut owner reported him missing.

The mountaineer never returned. After the hut warden raised the alarm, he and three other people set out to search for the man themselves.
