Record temperature measured in the sea off Mallorca

It has been very warm in Mallorca recently. The sea off the island became a "bathtub". Soon, however, temperatures there are expected to drop from well over 30 degrees to highs of sometimes just 25 degrees.

According to official figures, the recent heatwave in Spain has heated the sea off Mallorca more than ever before since measurements began.

The previous record was 31.36 degrees
The measuring buoy in the southwest of the Spanish Mediterranean island measured a water temperature of 31.87 degrees on Monday off the small neighboring island of Dragonera, around 30 kilometers west of Palma, according to the meteorological association Ametse. The previous record of 31.36 degrees dates back to August 2022, it said.

Storm warning for the middle of the week
In the meantime, temperatures in large parts of Spain are somewhat more bearable than in recent days and weeks. On Wednesday, Mallorca is even expected to be hit by a low-pressure system that could bring hail, heavy rain and thunderstorms. According to the national weather service Aemet, the second-highest warning level orange applies for the island on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to drop from well over 30 degrees to highs of just 25 degrees. However, it is set to get warmer again at the weekend.
