Still no turnaround in sight on the labor market

The Vorarlberg Public Employment Service (AMS) is under pressure. Compared to the previous year, the number of people looking for a job rose by 7.6 percent in July.

"A trend reversal is currently not in sight," explains Bernhard Bereuter, Managing Director of AMS Vorarlberg, matter-of-factly. The largest increase was recorded by the group of people with no more than a compulsory school leaving certificate. An additional 406 unemployed people were registered here, an increase of 10.3 percent.

At 5.7 percent, the increase for people with an apprenticeship was well below average. And the number of unemployed graduates actually fell by 2.9 percent. Bereuter draws conclusions from this situation: "Our goal is to systematically expand the training of skilled workers. By training people to become skilled workers, we reduce the risk of becoming unemployed. "

At the end of July 2024, 9430 people were registered as unemployed with the AMS; the unemployment rate is currently 5.1 and therefore below the national average of 6.4 percent.
