AI chips: Apple relies on an unexpected supplier

For the training of two key components of its artificial intelligence (AI), Apple is doing without the special processors of global market leader Nvidia.

Instead, the software runs on high-performance computers from Alphabet subsidiary Google, according to a development report published by the US iPhone provider on Monday (local time). Apple and Google were initially unavailable for comment. Nvidia did not wish to comment on this issue.

Apple presented its "Apple Intelligence" a few weeks ago, which is intended to benefit the voice assistant "Siri", among other things. According to further information, Apple is using several thousand special AI chips from Google to train the AI, which will run on iPhones and other devices from the company. These are not sold, but rented out as part of the use of Google data centers.
