Austrian woman dies in horror crash in Italy

Terrible news from Italy: A young Austrian woman was traveling in South Tyrol with her husband and one-year-old child when a serious accident occurred on the Brenner highway near the northern Italian city of Trento. The 24-year-old woman was killed in the crash. 

The mother, her partner and the one-year-old child had been traveling south by car near the airport and collided with a parked truck as they entered a rest area. The woman in the passenger seat died at the scene of the accident, while the man at the wheel was seriously injured.

One-year-old child survives accident
The one-year-old child was also injured, according to the police. They assume that the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The man was taken to hospital in Trento with serious injuries. No further details on the identity of the victim and the injured were available at the time of writing.

The highway remained closed for the duration of the rescue work. As a result, there were long traffic jams between Bolzano South and Rovereto North.
