Operation on the A9: Truck completely burnt out

A truck completely burnt out on the Pyhrnautobahn in Traboch, Upper Styria, on Wednesday. The Hungarian driver was able to get to safety in time, but the vehicle is a total loss.

The driver of the truck loaded with poppy sacks, a 48-year-old Hungarian, stated that he had heard a loud noise shortly before the fire broke out. He then noticed smoke coming from the side mirror. He parked the vehicle on the hard shoulder (direction Linz) in good time and was able to leave the driver's cab unharmed.

The flames quickly spread from the driver's cab to the semi-trailer and the truck was fully engulfed in flames. The highway even had to be closed in both directions for around 15 minutes due to the heavy smoke development. No fewer than six fire departments were deployed, with firefighters from Traboch-Timmersdorf fighting the fire using heavy breathing apparatus.

After the firefighting work, the truck had to be unloaded for recovery. Due to the extensive clean-up work and the recovery of the semitrailer, the highway in the direction of Linz remained closed until the early evening.
