Rope got caught: Climber (33) seriously injured

Serious accident on Tuesday evening in Silz in the Tyrolean district of Imst! Two locals - a man (33) and a woman (28) - wanted to abseil down a via ferrata. However, there were complications, which is why the 33-year-old fell. The helicopter was called out.

The devastating accident happened at around 8.30 pm. The 33-year-old and the 28-year-old were abseiling down a 30-metre-high wall on a via ferrata in Silz. "After they both unhooked themselves from the rope, the man tried to pull off the climbing rope," said the police.

During another attempt to release the rope from the wall, the man fell and remained injured on the ground.

According to the investigators, the rope probably got caught in the rock face. As a result, the 33-year-old had to descend around six meters unsecured. "During another attempt to free the rope from the wall, the man fell and remained injured on the ground." 

The climber was able to make an emergency call on his own. A rescue helicopter recovered him with the rope and flew him to Innsbruck Hospital with serious injuries.
