Truck leaked diesel on Inntal highway after accident

A truck spilled diesel on the Inntal highway near Wörgl (Kufstein district) in Tyrol on Monday afternoon after an accident in a roadworks area, causing both lanes of the highway to be temporarily closed. There were kilometers of traffic jams.

 

Once again, the Wörgl Ost exit - a dangerous and narrow "bottleneck" for exiting the A12 due to the months-long roadworks - was severely affected.

Construction site equipment damaged
Presumably due to carelessness, a 68-year-old Bulgarian crashed a semitrailer truck into the concrete crash barrier shortly before 2 p.m. and tore off a considerable section. The truck's tank was damaged and hundreds of liters of fuel spilled onto the road.

Several fire departments, numerous Asfinag employees and the construction site were deployed to contain the considerable diesel spillage and repair the damage to the highway exit. "The Inntalautobahn had to be completely closed in both directions for around 25 minutes," said the police. Naturally, this resulted in a traffic jam that at times stretched back for kilometers to Kramsach. Fortunately, nobody was injured.
