Blinded by the sun: Car rams into motorcyclist

A terrible accident late on Thursday afternoon in the Tyrolean Oberland: a car driver, blinded by the sun, drove into the oncoming lane in Tarrenz (Imst district) and crashed into an oncoming motorcyclist. The biker (24) crashed and sustained serious injuries.

The fatal traffic accident happened at around 4 pm. The 49-year-old Dutch driver was traveling on the Mieminger Bundesstraße (B189) from Tarrenz in the direction of Imst when, according to the police, he was apparently blinded by the sun.

He drove into the oncoming lane
As a result, he drove his car into the oncoming lane. This resulted in a side collision with the oncoming Swedish motorcyclist! The latter suffered serious injuries to his left leg as a result of the devastating collision.

Injured biker taken to hospital by ambulance
After first aid at the scene of the accident, the 24-year-old biker was taken to Zams Hospital by ambulance. 

Both vehicles sustained considerable material damage. Only one lane of the B189 could be used in the area of the accident for the duration of the accident investigation and clean-up work.
