Taliban negotiation: What the “Krone” readers say

Readmission agreements are necessary to enable repatriations to countries such as Afghanistan. The FPÖ recently announced its intention to hold talks with the Taliban in this regard. Read here what the "Krone" community thinks about this plan.

Negotiations necessary
Many users see it as a matter of course that countries must take back their own citizens in the event of repatriation and were surprised that agreements are needed for this. krone.at user Katzenzunge2 also sees negotiations with the Taliban, who have been in power in Afghanistan since 2021, as unavoidable.

Negotiating with extremists?
Some readers have concerns when it comes to negotiating with an Islamist terrorist group, as Lillith73 also notes - she fears that this will promote a certain acceptance of the regime.

Why only now?
Several Krone readers criticize the fact that this proposal is only being made now, shortly before the election. They sense empty election campaign promises behind the announcement, as the FPÖ has been in government before and no negotiations took place in previous government periods.
