Drugged driver gives police a wild chase

Life-threatening escape Wednesday evening in the Drau city: under the influence of drugs, a 19-year-old driver sped away from the police right through Villach, endangering numerous pedestrians and road users. End of the line one-way street! 

The 19-year-old was no stranger to the police - and so the officers knew that the driver did not have a driver's license when they spotted him in the pedestrian zone. Apart from the fact that the car was not registered to drive. But instead of pulling over as requested, the suspect stepped on the gas.

The 19-year-old sped off at far too high a speed, disregarded red lights, sped through several intersections and across the customer parking lot of a supermarket - only by luck did the driver not hit any other road users or pedestrians. The fugitive finally came to an end in a one-way street.

Roadworks vehicle ends escape
A roadworks vehicle had blocked the lane, so the 19-year-old could neither go forwards nor backwards. The handcuffs clicked on the spot. A drug test later revealed that the suspect was under the influence of opiates, morphines and marijuana. Charges at large.
