Tyrolean (82) lands with car upside down in stream bed

Spectacular accident on Monday evening in Wildschönau in the Tyrolean district of Kufstein: an 82-year-old local man drove his car off a path and crashed into the bed of a stream. The car overturned and the injured driver was trapped in the wreck. A passer-by spotted the vehicle and immediately raised the alarm.

The serious accident happened at around 7.40 pm in the Oberau district. According to the police, the 82-year-old local man was driving downhill on the Sonnberg public interest road when, in the area of a sharp left-hand bend, immediately before a wooden bridge, he drove over the edge of the road for an as yet unexplained reason. 

Driver trapped in the wreck
The car then plunged around four meters over the embankment into the stream bed. "The car came to rest on its roof and the 82-year-old was trapped in the vehicle," according to the investigators.

Injured man freed by fire department
A car driver driving uphill finally discovered the crashed vehicle in the bed of the stream and immediately set the rescue chain in motion. The pensioner had to be rescued from the wreckage by the fire department. 

After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, the injured 82-year-old was taken to the district hospital in Kufstein. The car was a total loss.
