Hiker fell a hundred meters over a snowfield

Once again, an old snow field in the Tyrolean mountains proved to be a hiker's undoing. The 42-year-old fell around a hundred meters and suffered serious injuries. A helicopter had to be called out to rescue him. 

According to the police, the 42-year-old German had undertaken a mountain tour to the Hochvogel near Hinterhornbach in the Außerfern. The man then wanted to go with a companion via the so-called Kalten Winkel to the Kreuzspitze. 

At around 2.45 p.m., the 42-year-old slipped while crossing a snowfield and fell around a hundred meters on the icy surface. He suffered serious injuries. His colleague raised the alarm. The fallen man was rescued by the rescue helicopter using a rope and flown to Zams Hospital.
