240 offenses: Youth gang caught in Vienna

Over 240 crimes: For months, a gang of teenagers was up to mischief all over Vienna. After intensive investigations, five of the teenagers were caught and charged. The youngest suspect is just twelve years old.

Several teenagers between the ages of 12 and 15 are allegedly responsible for more than 100 burglaries in several districts of Vienna between June 28 and July 1, 2024. The crime process was mostly similar. They gained access to the vehicles by smashing small windows and drove around in the stolen cars.

In total, the police estimate that more than 240 crimes have been committed by around 30 to 40 young people in recent months. Most recently, the gang was active in the districts of Leopoldstadt, Landstraße, Brigittenau, Floridsdorf and Donaustadt.

Victim was able to locate stolen car
As part of an intensive investigation, officers managed to catch five young people (aged between twelve and 15) red-handed in Donaustadt last Sunday. They had broken into a car in Panethgasse and sped off in it. Fortunately, the vehicle could be located by the victim so that the current location of the stolen car was continuously transmitted to the officers.

Investigations continue
The two suspects of criminal age were taken to a prison shortly afterwards. Further investigations are in full swing. The amount of damage is not yet available.
