Presenter bans the word “player material”

Excitement in ZDF's European Championship studio: presenter Jochen Breyer caused questioning faces among his experts and outrage on the net on Thursday evening before the match between Spain and Italy (1:0) because he "canceled" a word.

During the pre-match coverage of the big match in Group B, the German world champion Per Mertesacker was analyzing the "Furio Roja", saying that the Spaniards did not currently have "the player material" to "only go for possession".

World champions are baffled
Presenter Breyer then caused puzzled faces among Mertesacker and fellow pundit Christoph Kramer by criticizing the use of the word "player material". In the direction of the duo, the ZDF man said: "Because you two use the term: I know it's viewed critically by some fans at home because people aren't material. Maybe we'll just say: the squad or the player potential."
