Motorcyclist killed in head-on accident with truck

A terrible accident on Tuesday in East Tyrol: a 68-year-old motorcyclist crossed into the oncoming lane near Hopfgarten in Defereggen and collided head-on with a truck. The Italian was thrown onto the road - he died at the scene of the accident.

The tragic accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. on the Defereggentalstraße. In the Erlachgalerie, which is around one kilometer long, the 68-year-old Italian crossed the middle of the road on his motorcycle and collided head-on with an oncoming truck.

Despite rapid first aid by the emergency services, the man succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.

The truck driver, a 52-year-old Austrian, suffered a severe shock and required medical attention. The country road was completely closed for a long time in the area of the accident.
