Train hits 93-year-old man in Mariazell

A 93-year-old man from Lower Austria was hit and fatally injured by a Museum Tramway train near Mariazell on Saturday morning. He is said not to have reacted to warning signals.

According to the police, the man was crossing a level crossing in St. Sebastian on foot at 11 a.m. on Saturday, which was secured with a St. Andrew's cross and stop sign, and did not react to the multiple warning signals given by the train driver.

Emergency braking and resuscitation failed
The train, which was traveling from Erlaufsee in the direction of Mariazell, hit the 93-year-old despite emergency braking. The train driver saw the casualty and immediately called the emergency services. Resuscitation attempts by the emergency services could not change anything: The man died at the scene of the accident.
