Fans are very worried after Oprah Winfrey (70) skipped a television appearance. The talk show icon is currently in hospital and has apparently caught a bad stomach bug.

Oprah Winfrey was absent from the US program "CBS Mornings" on Tuesday morning. The US talk show host was supposed to present her latest book club selection. But the TV icon apparently caught a bad stomach bug and even has to recover in hospital.

"It came out at both ends"
Presenter Gayle King explained to the audience on the show: "She has something with her stomach - a stomach flu - it came out of both ends."

The TV icon is in hospital and has been given an IV for dehydration, King revealed. It was a very serious matter, she added. Winfrey needs to recover. "I hope she's not mad at me for telling her that."

Winfrey is on the road to recovery
A spokesperson for the presenter later confirmed King's comments to the US magazine "People". He also gave a brief health update: Winfrey is on the road to recovery. The 70-year-old is recovering from the stomach bug and has received an infusion on the advice of her doctor. "She is resting and feeling better by the day," the spokesperson added.
